Day 26
Detroit
Well actually I’m in Canada but my view is of downtown Detroit. It’s been a very long day with lots of driving. My day started with a new Bible study. More on that later because I have to be honest; the wonderful women in this group are what made me want to join. My good good friend is leading it and she is excellent. All the other participants are people I met in my first study in the fall. There is something about meeting new people that can really make me step up my game. First I have to be a good listener otherwise I will never remember anyone’s name! Next I get to sit back and be enriched by someone else’s story. The key to these new relationships is to take any judgment out of the equation. Listen to this new friend and show no bias. Hear what they say and appreciate the life they are living.
This morning I sat next to someone who I probably would have never met outside of the study. Our lives are very different but her life story and how she is is living it right now makes me respect her for all she does. She is fascinating and wise. No judgement.
In a group like this the ages are all spread across the spectrum. Even the youngest person in the group sets a good example for me and makes me want to be more like her. She is constantly working at becoming a better person. How does she do it? I just watch and learn. No judgement.
Tomorrow I am attending a Needlepoint retreat in Detroit. (Don’t judge me and think I’m an old lady!!) I can’t wait to continue my craft and learn more. I also know that I’m meeting new people and spending two solid days with them. I will apply my “be a good listener and don’t judge” rule to this new situation. I can’t wait!!
